About BlocQ

BlocQ, Inc. is a deep-tech startup headquartered in Tokyo and Silicon Valley, on a mission to solve cybersecurity challenges in the quantum computing era. We research and develop algorithms and software for quantum computers, bringing together world-class quantum researchers, software engineers, and cybersecurity experts — many with roots at the University of Tokyo — to extract peak performance from quantum hardware.

We are working toward the world’s first commercialization of quantum digital computing. If you want to be at the frontier of that effort, we’d love to meet you.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Quantum Error Correction (QEC) Researcher with hands-on R&D experience in quantum error correction. You will join a team designing the world’s first quantum digital computing applications, tackling one of the most critical challenges on the path to practical quantum computers: fault tolerance.

Your primary focus will be the research and development of error correction codes and decoder algorithms targeting fault-tolerant quantum computation (FTQC). You will design theoretical schemes, validate them through numerical simulation, and bridge the gap between theory and real-world implementation. You will also survey the global research landscape and feed insights back into internal technology decisions, collaborate with cybersecurity experts to strengthen overall system robustness, and contribute to integrating QEC protocols into BlocQ’s software stack.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze novel quantum error-correcting codes toward fault-tolerant quantum computation (FTQC)
  • Develop and optimize decoder algorithms tailored to real hardware configurations
  • Survey the latest research literature and contribute findings to internal technology selection
  • Optimize error correction schemes at the software level, taking into account the physical constraints and noise characteristics (error models) of diverse quantum hardware platforms (neutral atom, superconducting, etc.)
  • Design and numerically simulate ultra-fast, low-latency decoder algorithms targeting FPGA-based control boards and real-time processing
  • Design architectures for integrating and automating theoretical QEC protocols into BlocQ’s quantum software stack (compiler and middleware)
  • Drive patent filing and IP creation based on research outcomes
  • (Senior) Define software/theory roadmaps toward FTQC, lead IP initiatives, and manage researchers on the team

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related field — or equivalent professional expertise
  • Deep expertise and background in quantum computing and quantum error correction
  • Strong research track record in quantum error correction (peer-reviewed publications, international conference presentations, etc.)
  • Strong software development skills: ability to translate mathematical QEC protocols into concrete quantum circuit models and numerical simulation programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for precise articulation of technical content

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of programming experience, including Python development
  • Experience designing software-level error correction schemes with an understanding of hardware-specific constraints and noise characteristics (error models) for platforms such as neutral atoms or superconducting qubits
  • Experience in performance- and memory-efficient software development using C++ or Rust
